Cops Say Man Damaged Police Cruiser, Tried to Arm Wrestle Officers

COLORADO – A man who flagged down police faces charges after officials say he tried to yank the officer from the car, damaged the vehicle’s hood, and challenged the officer to an arm wrestling match after he pulled over.

The incident happened Wednesday near the 3200 block of North Chestnut Street in Colorado Springs.

Police say 59-year-old Mark Smith flagged down the officer at around 12:30 p.m. When the officer pulled over, Smith allegedly opened the driver’s door and attempted to pull him out of the cruiser. Smith then began jumping on the hood of the cruiser causing damage.

After he was placed in handcuffs, Smith challenged officers to an arm wrestling match.

After struggling with officers and medics, Smith was transported to a local hospital where he will receive a psychological evaluation.

Smith faces charges of Criminal Mischief and Obstructing a Police Officer.
