FLORIDA – Police say a habitual offender, with a history of drug crimes, was taken into custody after he tried to elude deputies by speeding through a residential Sarasota neighborhood.
Officers say they spotted 31-year-old Jamaine Outing Wednesday morning and tried to pull him over for questioning in connection with a crime that happened early that day.
Instead of pulling over, police say Nokomis sped through streets of Laurel, driving over lawns, breaking two exposed sewer pipes and endangering at least two pedestrians.
Outing tried to flee on foot but was taken into custody.
In addition to charges by Venice Police of Burglary and Petit Theft, Outing faces charges of Fleeing to Elude and for being a Habitual Traffic Offender.
Officers say he has been arrested 42 times in Sarasota County for numerous drug charges, battery and torturing animals.
Investigators say his driving offenses began when he was just 14 years old.
Police report that Outing has only been to prison once in Florid serving a three-year sentence for possession of cocaine.
